Miriam Monsonego, 8 years old, Toulouse, France.
Miriam Monsonego, the daughter of the Ozar haTorah Principal, tried to escape the black-clad assassin, but he got hold of her hair. According to eye-witnesses, after shooting her once at close-range, he raised her head, full of blood, and shot her two more times. "Her father went to her and kissed her."
Miriam Monsonego's aunt said, before the burial: "They took a beautiful soul. We prayed for ten years for her soul to come to us, now we have been left with a huge void."
Avishai Monsonego, Miriam's older brother said at the funeral service: "Pray that G-d gives Mummy and Daddy the strength to overcome the most trying ordeal ever. Don't stop, Miriami, don't stop. You are as close as possible to G-d. I pray to the All Mighty, to give us strength, and more strength.
Shaul Nahum, a friend of the family, said: "It is so hard to talk about this child in the past tense. Last Saturday night I heard her talking with her grandmother. It was rare to hear a young girl talk about the spiritual message of the Sabbath so openly and with such confidence."
Miriam was laid to rest at Giv'at Shaul Cemetery in Jerusalem. She is survived by her parents and four brothers.
