PM Sharon’s remarks at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting

28/08/2005 - יום ראשון כ"ג אב תשס"ה

Following are Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s remarks at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), 28.8.05:

“This morning there was a terrorist attack in Be’er Sheva; Israel Police Commissioner Moshe Karadi and ISA Director Yuval Diskin will brief us on the matter.  The first issue we will deal with today is Education Minister Limor Livnat’s report ahead of the opening of the academic year.  Afterwards, we will be briefed on the Disengagement Plan and we deal with the special and complex issue of dismantling the synagogues in the Gaza Strip.  To this end, I have invited Chief Rabbis Shaul Amar and Yonah Metzger, IDF Chief Rabbi Brig.-Gen. Yisrael Weiss and several members of the Chief Rabbinate Council.  We will hear their briefings and then decide on the issue.  We will then deal with the approval for the deployment of Egyptian Border Guards on the Egyptian side of the Philadelphi corridor.  Lastly, National Infrastructures Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer will brief us on the Israeli-Egyptian memorandum of understanding on the supply of natural gas.

Minister Matan Vilnai will be appointed Acting Minister of Science and Technology.  Additionally, since he is involved in contacts with the evacuees, I have asked him to help in this area in order to hasten the work being done.  As you know, I have stated that this issue is one of the Government’s most important and you must make every effort to hasten the settling of the evacuees.  The idea is to do everything possible so that the evacuees might return to cohesive communities as they wish.”
