Cabinet communique |

| (20/06/2001) |
At the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet meeting today (Wednesday), 20.6.2001:
The Government of Israel has determined that the Palestinian Authority
has still not fulfilled its obligations specified in the Tenet document:
halting terrorism, arresting terrorists, stopping incitement and
preventing attacks. The PA bears full responsibility for terrorist
activities in its territory, as well as for the actions of terrorists
that originate in - and return to - its territories.
Despite the foregoing, Israel will continue its efforts to implement the
Tenet document.
Israel reserves the right of self-defense to prevent attacks aimed at
its citizens and soldiers.
A plan for the redeplyment of IDF troops will be presented at the
security meeting but it will be made clear that its implementation will
only take place after the cessation of terrorist attacks.
Steps are being taken - and will be taken - to improve the level of
protection in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Finance Minister Silvan Shalom
briefed the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet regarding the order he signed on
this issue.
