At the weekly Cabinet meeting today (Sunday), 10.11.2002:
1. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon welcomed Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and
Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Cabinet, and said that the
period in which Israel now finds itself requires the strengthening of
the government in order to implement policy according to its decisions
and guidelines .
The Prime Minister stressed that the current period is complex and expressed
his certainty that if we act together, Israel will be able to overcome
the problems facing it.
Ministers Mofaz and Netanyahu thanked the Prime Minister for his
remarks.
2. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz briefed the Cabinet on current security
matters, referring to both recent terror attacks as well as the IDF's
counter-terrorist actions. The Defense Minister spoke in detail on the
continuing trend of Palestinian terror, the numerous warnings and the
security establishment's counter-terrorist efforts in the context of
Israel's struggle against terror. The Defense Minister discussed issues
related to the strengthening of Israel's security and the possibility of
a US attack on Iraq.
3. Israel Police Commissioner Shlomo Aharonishky briefed ministers on
the role of the Israel Police in the security sphere as well as the
struggle against crime, the war on road accidents, and the struggles
against drugs, illegal gambling and trafficking in human beings. The
Commissioner noted the efforts of the Border Police along the seam line
and its deployment there, and the Border Police's successful efforts in
implementing government policy on those who are in Israel illegally.
Prime Minister Sharon thanked Commissioner Aharonishky and the Israel
Police for their outstanding work.
