At the weekly Cabinet meeting today in Sde Boker, to mark the 33rd anniversary of the passing of the State of Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion:
 
1. The Cabinet, in keeping with the Government’s policy guidelines and its 20.11.05 and 12.9.06 decisions, decided to approve an approximately NIS 400 million plan to accelerate the development of the Negev and to implement the plan in 2007.  
 
2. The Cabinet, in light of continued hostilities from the Gaza Strip and in continuation of its 14.9.06 decision , approved a supplementary assistance plan to strengthen Sderot and communities in the greater Gaza Strip area.  A detailed decision will be submitted to the Cabinet next month.  The NIS 134.8 million plan (which will bring total Government assistance to Sderot and communities in the greater Gaza Strip area to NIS 354.8 million, not including structural reinforcement) will be for 2007.  
 
3. The Cabinet appointed Professor Moshe Brur as Chairman of the Government Names Committee.  He will replace Professor Avraham Biran, who is retiring after 55 years of dedicated service.  
 
4. Pursuant to its authority under the 2006 National Road Safety Authority Law, the Cabinet accepted the recommendation of Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz and appointed 14 people to the National Road Safety Authority Council; 
 
5. The Cabinet approved continued subsidies for daycare for working mothers among Gaza Strip and northern Samaria evacuees until the end of the current school year;
 
6. The discussed the establishment of a national repository site in the Negev; .
