Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today (Tuesday), 23.11.04, in his Jerusalem office, hosted a group of woman volunteers on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which takes place on Thursday, 25.11.04.
Education Minister Limor Livnat, Health Minister Danny Naveh, Immigrant Absorption Minister Tzippi Livni, Acting Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra, Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women Chairwoman MK Eti Livni and the Prime Minister’s Office Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women Director Yehudit Plotkin and MK Gila Gamliel also attended the event.
The volunteers briefed Prime Minister Sharon on the various issues they deal with on a daily basis at their respective centers.
Prime Minister Sharon said that, “The entire public is responsible for the issue of violence against women, and it needs to sound the alarm and warn about instances of the this phenomenon. The problem of violence in all its forms is not a problem for individuals, it is a national problem. There is no doubt that the future of Israeli society depends on the efforts to stop this sickening evil.”
The aforementioned ministers thanked Prime Minister Sharon for advancing the issue of the struggle to eliminate violence against women and reported on the actions of their respective ministries.
Prime Minister Sharon commended the work of Prime Minister’s Office Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women Director Plotkin and thanked her for her dedication and service to the community.
Prime Minister Sharon praised the volunteers and thanked them for their great help: “Voluntarism is a mark of honor for you and I thank you for your activities.”
