Prime Minister Ariel Sharon met this morning (Monday), 20.12.04, with President Moshe Katsav. Following the meeting, Prime Minister Sharon answered journalists’ questions: On the issue of remarks by Binyamin Area Regional Council Chairman Pinchas Wallerstein: “I see these remarks as harsh. I have known Pinchas for many years, I don’t think that this is his way. He has done many positive things. I understand the pain, developments are painful for me too, but they are necessary. I am certain that we will do everything in order to uphold the law.” “The disengagement will be carried out according to the timetable that has been determined by the Government and approved by the Knesset. The struggle against terrorism will continue unabated. The political leadership has placed no restrictions on using all security measures to prevent terrorism. The security establishment is waging a complicated struggle, a struggle that will continue as long as terrorism continues. Regarding the Palestinian leadership, a window of opportunity has been opened and it must know that there will be no progress in the diplomatic process without defeating terrorism, halting incitement and implementing reforms. There will be no concessions on the issue of the security of the State of Israel.” On the issue of a referendum: “The Government made a decision, which was approved by the Knesset. Whoever proposes holding a referendum will bring about great tension and a deeper rift.”
