Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this morning, met with a British United Jewish Israel Appeal delegation that has arrived in Israel in the framework of its efforts to encouragement development of the Galilee.

Prime Minister Olmert briefed the UJIA delegates on the Israeli economy's great progress in the past year and spoke with them about the many investment possibilities facing them, especially in the Galilee: "The Galilee is a wonderful area that can become even more magnificent if we invest in it properly, from both a community and a fiscal point-of-view.  I personally spend my family holidays in the Galilee, there are wonderful places there.  With minimal investment they could become even more successful.  The Galilee was neglected for many years and we are currently making major investments there.  I believe that your decision to focus on assisting this part of the country is both correct and important; your influence on its development will be tremendous.  There are two areas in which we can do wonders – the Negev and the Galilee.  We must invest in both infrastructures and population, and this the Government will do."

Prime Minister Olmert thanked the delegates for visiting Israel and thanked them for choosing to invest in the development of the Galilee and noted Israel's good relations with many European nations in general and with Great Britain in particular.  "Tony Blair is undoubtedly a good friend of Israel," the Prime Minister said.
