Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today met with Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, who has arrived in Israel on an official visit (http://tinyurl.com/2xbbmt). The two discussed various issues on the regional agenda including the situation in Gaza (http://tinyurl.com/2pyt99) and Iranian threats. Prime Minister Olmert told Austrian Foreign Minister Plassnik that his meetings with Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen are continuing and that he intends to accelerate the negotiations and advance the process. However, the Prime Minister made it clear that terrorism must be fought vigorously in order to prevent Kassam rocket fire at the residents of Israel (http://tinyurl.com/3ypjqk). He added that while Israel would not cause a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, counter-terrorism actions would continue. On the Iranian issue (http://tinyurl.com/2hk4mw), Prime Minister Olmert made it clear that the economic and energy sanctions that have been imposed by the international community are proving their efficacy and added that they must continue.
