Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today awarded certificates of excellence to 16 National and Civic Service Administration volunteers, who were selected from among the seven recognized bodies that operate National and Civic Service volunteers (two volunteers per body). The volunteers work in fields such as education, health and social welfare and participate in various projects us the struggle against traffic accidents and workers' rights. They also assisted residents of the south during Operation Cast Lead.
Prime Minister's Office Director-General Ra'anan Dinur and National and Civic Service Administration Director Dr. Reuven Gal were among those who also attended today's award ceremony.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert hailed the volunteers and the National and Civic Service Administration and said (inter alia): "In this Government, we looked for a format that would assist in integrating many strata from Israeli society and in forging links that would make that society better…You, the volunteers, symbolize the variegated nature of that society – haredi, new immigrants, Arabs and veteran Israelis – and work, each in his or her field, to make it better."
