Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today (Tuesday), 6.8.2002, at his Jerusalem
office, met with Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Zeki
Cakan; the two sides agreed that Israel would purchase 50 million cubic
meters of water per annum from Turkey for 20 years.
A joint committee headed by Prime Minister's Office Director-General
Avigdor Yitzhaki and the director-general of Minister Cakan's ministry,
was set up to discuss and finalize the issue of how the water is to be
transported from Turkey to Israel. The committee will hold its first
meeting in Ankara.
The two sides agree on the importance of the advancement of joint
projects - both existing and planned - in southeast Turkey.
