PM Sharon’s Remarks at the Start of the Weekly Cabinet Meeting

27/11/2005

“Good morning!

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, IDF Chief-of-Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz, OC Intelligence Maj.-Gen. Aharon Zeevy (Farkash) and the Deputy Director of the ISA will brief the Cabinet on events in the north.

On a different issue, today I am tabling two master plans:

The first is the plan for the Nitzanim area.  This plan was prepared in the framework of the implementation of the Disengagement Plan in order to build a common residential area for Gaza Strip settlers.  The plan combines green spaces and nature reserves with areas designated for residential purposes.  According to the plan, nature reserves’ area will be doubled.  Approving this plan today will allow groundwork for construction of the new communities to begin immediately.

The second plan is the national master plan designed to provide the principles of development and preservation for the entire country.  It was put together by leading planners and provides Israel’s planning framework for the next twenty years.  In keeping with Government policy, this plan will also grant preference to the development – and increasing the population – of the Negev, the Galilee and Jerusalem.”
