Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today, telephoned Jordanian King Abdallah II and told him that the results of the recent Palestinian Authority elections have created a new situation and emphasized that Israel will be unable to have any contact with a government that includes Hamas.  He said that Hamas must disarm, annul its Covenant  which calls for Israel’s destruction, and added that the international community must put this demand to the Palestinians.  The Acting Prime Minister said that they must work together in order to discuss the new circumstances that have been created.

Jordanian King Abdallah II said that the Palestinians must show responsibility and decide the path that they will take.

The two men agreed to talk again, immediately after the Jordanian monarch’s upcoming visit to the US, in order to discuss developments in the wake of the PA elections
