New Study on School Meal Program

27/04/2006

A Pilat Institute study shows that 85% of teachers and principals believe that the school meal program has a positive influence on students regarding study skills, concentration and eating habits.  The study was initiated by the School Meal Program Steering Committee, which is chaired by Prime Minister's Office Director-General Ilan Cohen.  The study also shows that 75% of participating teachers also believe that the program is very important for students; 83% of principals expressed high satisfaction with the service providers.  Other study data shows that 97.3% of students interested in taking part in the program do so.  47% of teachers reported encountering students who complained of being hungry before the start of the program.

Approximately 180,000 students around the country currently participate in the program, which is operated and funded by the Government and the Sacta-Rashi Foundation. The program is overseen by two external quality control companies.
