Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today, issued the following eulogy for former IDF Chief Rabbi Gad Navon, who recently passed away:

"Gad Navon's resume is historic testimony to the story of the revival of the Jewish People in its land from his immigration as a youth, through his service in the underground and in the IDF, to his role in forming the IDF Rabbinate's outlook on the various moral and humanitarian issues that came up during the IDF's war on Israel's enemies. 

Gad Navon adopted the approach of Hillel as seen in the dictum: 'Be of the disciples of Aaron – love peace, pursue peace, love people and draw them to the Torah.' 

The State of Israel mourns the passing of former IDF Chief Rabbi Gad Navon and sends its condolences to his widow and children."
