Following is a statement made by the Director-General of the Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital, Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef:
“The Hadassah team of specialists, headed by Prof. Umanski, head of the neuro-surgical unit, who was also the head surgeon during the three surgeries on the Prime Minister, convened this morning to discuss the Prime Minister’s condition.
Following the discussion, a CT scan was conducted, in which we continue to detect further improvement in the Prime Minister’s brain scan. We observed a diminution of the brain lobes, good draining of the intra-cranial fluid, and the CT shows the cerebral folds. All the measurements I mentioned indicate an improvement in the brain CT scan. In addition, all other measurements we checked were within the norm, including intra-cranial pressure, blood pressure and pulse, and the Prime Minister does not have a fever. The team of specialists includes doctors from the neuro-surgical, neurological, anesthetics and intensive care units and also experts on infectious diseases.
The Prime Minister’s condition is still serious but stable, and there is improvement in the Prime Minister’s CT scan. Regarding the plan, in light of all of these data, the team of experts has decided to begin the process of bringing the Prime Minister out of the induced coma tomorrow morning, on condition that there will be no major changes until the morning. If this is indeed so, tomorrow morning, following the morning discussion of the team of specialists, the process of slow weaning will begin – it is not really weaning but rather a decrease in the level of sedation and an examination of the Prime Minister’s neurological functions.
This is in fact what we are all waiting for since Wednesday – to know how the Prime Minister’s brain functions and I hope that we will be able to update you in this regard, tomorrow at approximately the same time.
I take this opportunity to thank the President of the State of Israel, the Vice Prime Minister, the Minister of Health and the President of Hadassah who all expressed their support and encouragement on behalf of all citizens of the State of Israel, the health system and the International Hadassah Organization. The President of Hadassah is also here with us in these critical moments for the fate of the Prime Minister.
I conclude: the Prime Minister’s condition is still serious, stable and with improvement in the CT scan, and tomorrow we will provide you with information regarding the Prime Minister’s ability to function.”
