| 09/07/2000 |
The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Ehud Barak, regrets that at a time when the whole State of Israel should be united and rise above political differences to face the most difficult and complex challenge the State has ever known, elected officials chose party, political and personal interests over national interests.
This is the first time on the eve of peace negotiations that the behavior of elected officials in the Government shows the world that we are not united. This act weakens our moral and national standing in the eyes of our peace negotiation partners and the entire world. The Prime Minister will continue to work towards protecting Israels security interests in the negotiations and will utilize in full the opportunity to end the conflict for a safer future for every child in Israel.
