Prime Minister Ariel Sharon expresses his deep shock and regret over
the loss of life and the hundreds of people who were injured in the
tragic event last night in Jerusalem. The Prime Minister sends both his
personal condolences, and those on behalf of the government, to the
bereaved families, and his best wishes for a quick recovery to the
injured.

Prime Minister Sharon is closely monitoring - and receiving regular
updates on - the rescue efforts at the site of the disaster. The Prime
Minister wishes to emphasize that the circumstances of the disaster will
be thoroughly checked and investigated.

Prime Minister Sharon expresses his deep appreciation and personal
gratitude to the dedicated personnel involved in the round-the-clock
rescue efforts.

Prime Minister Sharon said that, "It is at this difficult time for the
bereaved families, the families of the injured, and for all of us, that
we are witnessing the Israeli people's strength of spirit, voluntarism
and cohesiveness as it mobilizes to render assistance out of the deep
sense of a shared fate."
