Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Finance Minister Silvan Shalom today
(Thursday), 13.12.2001, at the Prime Minister's Tel Aviv office, held
consultations with some of the coalition faction heads on the 2002 State
Budget.
There was a consensus among the faction heads regarding Finance Minister
Shalom's proposal to make adjustments to the 2002 budget, including
adjusting the deficit to 3% as well as updating the growth expectations
for next year to 2% instead of 4%. Prime Minister Sharon stated that
the proposed budget cut stands at six billion shekels.
The meeting concluded with the professional leadership of the Finance
Ministry committing to formulate a number of different options for the
planned budget cuts, based on the ideas that were suggested during the
meeting, to be examined and presented to the Cabinet.
