Prime Minister Ariel Sharon spoke today (Wednesday), 19.12.2001, with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and briefed him on the situation on the ground.

Prime Minister Sharon said that there were 49 terrorist incidents - in
which four Israelis were wounded, one of whom is in serious condition and including a young boy - in the past three days.

Prime Minister Sharon said that Israel is fed up with words and false
promises. The Prime Minister noted that Palestinian Authority Chairman
Yasser Arafat has not made a strategic decision to abandon terrorism and
added that the latter is not acting to foil terrorism.

The Prime Minister said that several recent attacks were perpetrated by
organizations directly subordinate to Arafat.

Prime Minister Sharon said that while Israel is committed to peace -
genuine peace, a peace for generations - and will continue to be so,
there can be no compromise regarding the security of Israel and its
citizens.
