03/05/2004

I would like to convey my condolences to the Hatuel family, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured in yesterday's cruel terrorist attack. I do not think there is anyone who can remain indifferent in the face of the heartbreaking images of a mother in her eighth month of pregnancy, and her four little daughters. How twisted must a person be to commit such a murder. I can assure you that we will pursue those who dispatched these murderers, and not one of them will escape.

As you all probably know, yesterday I announced that I received the results of the Likud referendum with regret, and will respect the results. I wish to thank the President of the United States again for his expressions of staunch friendship and support for Israel's aspirations of tranquility, security and peace.

Today, we are returning to the Knesset following the Passover break. I believe it will be a very interesting term a term in which the faction and the Knesset will have to make several difficult decisions which will affect the future of all of us.

Yesterday, I announced that I intend to consult with the ministers, the Likud faction and the other parties in order to examine the implications and steps we intend to take.

I would like to emphasize: the people of Israel elected us to find the path to tranquility, security, peace and economic progress, and I intend to do so. There is no other point to our being here.

Thank you.
