Mr. Speaker, Distinguished Knesset,
I believe we all understand what happened here today.
It is a shame that sectarianism and personal motives thwarted the attempt to appoint two deserving people to ministries which are important to staff with a full-time minister. It is more of a shame that members of the Likud faction, who constantly speak highly of the Likud and Israel, brought about the failure of a move which was to strengthen the Likud and give it the representation it deserves in the Government, in accordance with coalition agreements.
I have no claims against the opposition – it is fulfilling its role. As to whom we still refer to as “members of the coalition” – this move will, of course, have consequences. Mr. Speaker, The need to preserve stability in the economy, and manage the government ministries in a deserving manner, obligates me to bring a new proposition to the Knesset for approval today. Therefore, I ask the members of the Government to gather in 15 minutes in the conference room of the Knesset.
I must confer with the Government, and I feel that something like this must be brought before the Government.
(In response to the comment of the Speaker of the Knesset): Sir, since it is late, I am asking the members of the Government to gather in the conference room in this building, and I am also attempting to do this as quickly as possible, so as not to keep the members here until a late hour.
