Prime Minister Olmert also met with Mayor Malul and members of the Kiryat Shemona City Council and said: “Kiryat Shemona is a symbol of the development and prosperity of the north in recent years. The fact that the northern border has been quiet for two years, without daily friction on the boundary line, has helped the development that has begun here. We are investing in infrastructure, developing highways and building industrial parks. The headline regarding Government investment here is in education. When I see the quiet and tranquility here, the developing factories and the growing city, I feel proud of what we have done.” Prior to visiting the stadium, Prime Minister Olmert visited the memorial to the soldiers who perished in the 1997 helicopter disaster.
