PM Olmert Receives Israel Statistical Abstract

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today, received the Statistical Abstract of Israel for 2007 from Central Bureau of Statistics Chief Statistician Prof. Shlomo Yitzhaki. 
 
The Abstract notes that the population of the State of Israel is 7.2 million and is considered young in relation to other western countries, with 28% of the population being under 14.  The Abstract also indicates that 2007 was a good year for the Israeli economy and was characterized by growth and increased exports. 
 
Prime Minister Olmert thanked CBS personnel for their work.  Regarding the contents of the Abstract, he said: "There is no doubt that the combination of the growth rate of the Israeli economy , Government policy and the economy's fiscal discipline have all greatly contributed to the success of the Israeli economy.  It is no coincidence that Israel has a target for massive investment in recent years, much more than in the past."

Prime Minister Olmert also commented on the data which indicates that national expenditure on education rose by 5% and added that OECD data shows that expenditures on educational institutions in Israel is high in relation to OECD member states.  "I am very proud of the Government's investments in education.  If we continue, and plan our investments in education as the Government has up until now, we will assure a better future for our children," the Prime Minister said
