The duties of the department:

1.        Coordinating the staff work of the Prime Minister's Office on socio-economic issues, and coordinating the work of Government Ministries, in accordance with the instructions of the Prime Minister and the Director-General, and on the basis of resolutions determined by the Prime Minister, the Government and the Director-General.

2.       Monitoring the implementation by Government Ministries of the priorities determined by the Prime Minister and the Government.

3.       Monitoring and supervising the implementation by Government Ministries of the annual work plans determined by the Prime Minister and the Government.

4.      Directing and monitoring the implementation of resolutions of the Government, the Ministerial Committees and the Director-General of the Prime Minister's Office.

5.       Coordinating the activity of Government Ministries for the advancement and implementation of national projects, ad-hoc projects and others.

6.      Representing the Prime Minister and the Director-General on various committees (Ministerial Committees, Knesset Committees, committees established on the basis of various Government resolutions, extra-parliamentary committees, follow-up committees, steering committees and others).

7.      Initiating and formulating Government resolutions on socio-economic issues, and liaising between all relevant Government Ministries prior to the submission of these resolutions to the Government.  

8.      Preparing the staff work and processing the information required for tours by the Prime Minister or the Director-General and for discussions held by the Prime Minister or the Director-General.

9.      Addressing the day-to-day correspondence on socio-economic issues which is sent to the Prime Minister's Office and redirected to the Department by either the Prime Minister or the Director-General.

The plan for encouraging growth in Jerusalem; the plan for the Basin of the Old City of Jerusalem; the security fence; the settlement blocs; the communities surrounding Gaza; the city of Sderot; the plan for the rehabilitation of Haifa and the North; the plan for the development of the Negev; the non-Jewish sector; Jewish-Zionist education projects; and local authorities.
